MrMotion
Hi all, My friends and myself have recently been given the opportunity to utilise an outdoor space in the courtyard of the Victoria Works. Victoria Works is Sheffield's new community led open arts space, located on Rowland Street in Sheffield. The guys who run the Victoria Works have been kind enough to let us use some space outside the main building. We are currently gathering material to begin the construction of some obstacles to be used to train Parkour. Parkour (abbreviated PK) is a holistic training discipline using movement that developed out of military obstacle training. Practitioners aim to quickly and efficiently overcome obstacles in their environment, using only their bodies and their surroundings to propel themselves; furthermore, they try to maintain as much momentum as is possible in a safe manner. Parkour can include running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and the like, depending on what movement is deemed most suitable for the given situation. Parkour is non-competitive. It may be performed on an obstacle course, but is usually practiced in a creative, and sometimes playful, reinterpretation or subversion of urban spaces. Parkour involves seeing one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potentialities for movement around it. We are in desperate need of scaffolding, handrails and any other metal structures and wood. If anyone could give us some advice as to where we might be able to acquire such materials (on the cheap OR ideally free/donation) we will be extremely grateful! Any help will go a long and will enable us to build a great area for those enthusiastic about movement to come down and give Parkour a try! Thank you! jo brierley
Try Freecycle or Freegle Sheffield branches, on line: for freebies in the Offered section. And you can put out a request for stuff too.
