If Scotland was independent..

Recommended Posts

Any revenues from north sea oil that is being paid to the UK government would then go to the scottish government.

And if the oil is in international waters then it all goes through Aberdeen etc anyway

Agreed. And they have the rest of the uk by the short and curlies for charging transport fees for all the green energy they export to us. Not to mention the roaring haggis trade with china....

They look set for a decade of boom then when it all goes tats up they can expect bailouts from us like Ireland.

BST is safer than GMT for kids travelling to and from school. It's far better for it to be lighter at night when kids are more likely to be messing about than in the morning when they are more subdued. And for the vast majority of the country it is light for about 8 o'clock even on December 21st. It's only the Scots that are messing us about.

If we had BST in winter it'd be dark when the kids are going to school & cause more road deaths, it's been tried, dark mornings are more dangerous.

wasn't this tested 50+ years ago when kids actually walked to school?

Forget about the Oil.

The islands, Hebrides + Orkney + Shetland are all solidly pro UK and will not be part of an Independent Scotland.

They don't actually like being called Scottish either as their ancestry is more scandinavian than celtic.

I never understand why Spain is 1 hour ahead of us despite almost the entire country being level or to the west of Britain. I guess it's a fair bit closer to the equator so they don't get the really late sunriwse but it still seems strange.

It was changed during WW2 and they want to change it back.

I think they become one of the richest countries in the world GDP per capita with all that north sea oil.

You think?

Looks like the Scottish think differently

If Scotland leave they take $250 Billion a year with them.

The remaining UK Economy will still have roughly $2 Trillion a year to keep it going.

There isn't 'as much' North Sea oil money as people make out - there's still an aweful lot but there's not a great deal of new exploration and not much in the way of new reserves being found.

The Americans have shown that Shale is the way forward, and England's got a load of un-tapped shale.
