Further good news appears as well - looks like the services sector is picking up strong and employment appears to be on a good upward run too..

Before the naysayers chip in (and yes it's anecdotal but-) in 2013, we've taken on 3 new secretaries, 2 new trainee professionals and 1 fully-qualified professional.

All of them full-time. Sheffield-based.

Out of the 6, 3 are 'net' (new position filled by previously-unemployed or instead-of-redundancy, not poached from a previous employer).

You're confusing economical systems with political systems again

Over the years? You're avatar details say you've been here since Feb 2013. Just how many usernames do you have?

p.s. I don't have to explain my opinion of you. Besides, everyone knows what kind of person you are as your posts ably demonstrate

Never mind Mecky, we will have a good laugh next time you expound.

Socialists, particularly Communists, in the early years of the movement referred to themselves as travelers along the road to freedom equality etc etc. Critics of such beliefs have long referred to adherents of any left leaning believer as fellow traveler. It is an old fashioned epithet but none the less relevant to todays social engineers.

Please note, the expression should not be read to mean traveler in the sense of the travelling community. Nor, in your case should it be construed other than a prolongation of our long discourse on a variety of subjects. It is certainly not meant to be abusive. For the record although I disagree with you frequently, I find your contributions well thought through and informative.

I trust the above answers your question, would you know care to answer my question?

I don't refer to myself as a traveller so I'm going to politely ask you to stop using the term in reference to me.

I gave a pretty comprehensive answer in post #12

Being as you mentioned Spain..Spanish unemployment rate is about 26% ....

UK rate is about 7.7%...

If Spain and our economy improving is due to an up turn in Europe and nothing to do with each country's government, then why this large difference in employment? Genuine question Mecky..

Not sure, maybe because Spain came out of recession last week, was it? I'm not sure what Spain's major industries are, I've not googled it, but you can bet a good percentage of it is seasonal work e.g. tourism, wine, tomatoes, olive oil and other crops. On the other hand, maybe Spain doesn't try to fudge it's unemployment figures but pushing claimants onto schemes to get them off the dole etc?

Coming from someone who argued recently that North Korea is capitalist.

Every country in the world is capitalist. They manufacture and sell things for profit, even if in some countries profit margins are at lower levels because of taxation.

Spain has very good training schemes for the tourist industry, also a world leader in agricultural training. It does in fact "push claimants onto schemes to get the off the dole" as you put it.

Or prepare the unemployed for employment by training motivation and encouragement, as anyone with a scintilla of common concern for his fellow man would.

Re those filthy capitalists in North Korea, what products or services are you aware of that they export and where to? I lived in an almost adjacent country for many years and I never saw anything from there. What do you know that we don't, I think we should be told.

I don't know, who said anything about exports? What do you think they export?
