Recent Immigrants make "net contribution" to finances

Recommended Posts

Or we could employ the steelworkers to do the jobs that are currently being done by the immigrants, rather than pay them the dole? Just a thought. Thank you for proving the point made earlier by ...?

But you've just said we are in the EU so we can't tell employers who to employ...........now you are saying we should be employing ex steelworkers over immigrants............I just said as much, now you're saying we should be doing it.

Wouldnt you have to retrain them? Thye might not be willing to do the jobs or accept some of the low salaries immigrants do. Arent you interfering in the job market by not letting an employer employ who they want? How would it work, immigrants first out?

The government is cutting tax credits and increasing the minimum wage. They are also trying to negotiate with Europe to stop recent immigrants claiming working tax credits. What more can he do exactly?

They've had years to do it............funny how they get round to taking action when it looks like a good anti immigrant, anti EU publicity stunt

If we didn't have the immigrants here, the steelworkers could be doing the job. It is a further cost of immigration.

But you know that.

In using the same xenophobic logic that is displayed in this thread. Can we not kick out the soon to be unemployed steelworkers who will now be a drain on the welfare state?

Some will pay more than their fair share in taxes because they can afford to and some will not. It is the same for everyone. We cannot just mandate all immigrants must be net contributors. It is unreasonable as we cannot guarantee this condition on ourselves.

There's a difference between people born into a country and the government being responsible for its citizens, and people born in another country and expecting another government to be responsible for them. Put simply, we are not the world's welfare state.

That's just the thing. What jobs are you talking about exactly? Steelworkers in general aren't exactly the most multi-talented people out there. You say we should give them jobs, but what if they are not qualified? The immigrants that come into this country aren't all unskilled as you would like to believe. Some are degree educated and make excellent engineers and doctors for example. I am sure your average shopfloor steelworker will not be to perform those duties.

They've had 6 months to do it, and are cracking on as best they can (although the undemocratic House of Lords is preventing the democratic will of the people). Before then, they were in coalition for 5 years and the Lib Dems wouldn't allow it.

What about the 40% of the EU immigrants who claim working tax credits? Doctors and engineers do not earn salaries that would be eligible for working tax credits. How about we block the 40% that can't afford to live here, and only take the 60% who can? My taxes aren't for topping up the wages of low paid immigrants (who in turn, have displaced Brits from the jobs anyway).

You cnat really do that unless ofc you want to leave the EU. No idea if thats your wish.

It will be good to remove tax credits over time and then employers can bear the true cost.

British Business employs them over Brits............Immigrants don't just jump into jobs by accident...........there must be a reason for it.
