RootsBooster
Happy Bonfire night! Thought I'd say it, Bonfire night (Guy Fawkes' night) was always one of my favourite nights as a kid. Odd little custom we have, isn't it?

I thought we were celebrating the failure of that act of terrorism rather than the attempt at it.
Maz3
I thought we were celebrating the failure of that act of terrorism rather than the attempt at it. Maybe the emphasis has undergone a subtle change recently

Well, we were forced to by law, for a long time Maybe the emphasis has undergone a subtle change recently ...which isn't a bad thing
tinfoilhat
Well, we were forced to by law, for a long time ...which isn't a bad thing Yeah but if we were celebrating gunpowder not going off surely a limp rocket that doesn't quite explode would do. After all the achievements this country has reached since its an odd one to stick with. But according to a few reports in the media it's popularity is on its way out - people (shops!) are more interested in Halloween.

I'm sure there's many a disappointed firework-watcher who'd say that's been their experience at some point
taxman
I thought it was all about celebrating my birthday. Do you mean to tell me all these fireworks and bonfires aren't about me?
