It is when you think about - we "celebrate" a failed act of terrorism from about 400 years ago.

 

I thought we were celebrating the failure of that act of terrorism rather than the attempt at it.

Well, we were forced to by law, for a long time

Maybe the emphasis has undergone a subtle change recently :suspect:

Yeah but if we were celebrating gunpowder not going off surely a limp rocket that doesn't quite explode would do. After all the achievements this country has reached since its an odd one to stick with. But according to a few reports in the media it's popularity is on its way out - people (shops!) are more interested in Halloween.

I'm sure there's many a disappointed firework-watcher who'd say that's been their experience at some point
