If you have a car, don't move to York. As far as I understand it from relatives, Sheffield is a car welcoming drivers utopia compared with York. Doom
Sorry, couldn't help but laugh at the Chicken George comment Another good point about York, they have some decent pubs serving some decent ales. Anyhow, I like Hawes I try to get to York at least once a year. I wouldn't call myself a culture vulture, but I do enjoy the feel of the place and a good walk down the side of the Ouse. I was up there with the wife in the summer and I'm back again the Friday before Christmas, although this time it's purely on a drinking session. I meet up once a year with an old student mate and we go for a few jars. He now lives in Drighouses in York, so I'm going to his house and we're going to work our way through the pubs on Tadcaster Road and into the city centre. I think the railway tap and Pivni will receive a visit, as will the White Swann (Nicholsons Pubs). Regards Doom
