Nagel
There's Roman remains at Templeborough, which is just on the Rotherham side of the M1. A lot of what was found was re-erected in Clifton Park in Rotherham as the Templeborough site was built over with a large steel works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Templeborough Better learn how to spell settlement if it's for a project. It's just one word, not two.

jfish1936
In this article on "danish" or Viking" England, there's a map. Sheffield appears to be well in the Danelaw (unless it's in the bit marked "swamp") http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danelaw So there should be "Viking" relics around. A post in the "Sheffield discussions" area in 2012 mentions a "Viking" coin in Weston Bank Museum

Archaeo
If you've got a bit of spare time on your hands give Heritage Gateway a try. You can search within a defined area for remains of any time period and type (building, graves, roads etc.) that you want that are registered either with English Heritage or Local Government Sites and Monuments Records. It'll probably turn up a lot more than you'd expect but you can find some really interesting little things in there with some patience.
