My understanding is that the garment is worn for the sake of modesty, because some bloke told them that their face and hair should be covered, why doesn't that rule apply to men? There's a tradition in all Abrahamic religions (including Christianity) that women cover their heads. As well as Muslim women, Catholic and Jewish women continue to follow that custom to varying degrees. This is what Corinthians says 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. Why should anyone hide their face? And don't say it's personal choice, because for many Muslim women there is no real choice. It's not called for in the Quran, and it's not about modesty either. I can't, so the next best thing is to ask the people that believe it is Gods law that says women should cover their faces, but men don't have to.
