Super Hans
You can't have it on sale for longer than it was at the higher price tho can you? That can't be true because if it was all supermarkets in the UK would be breaking the law, and they just wouldn't risk their reputation being damaged like that. Bonzo77
It's up to shoppers to keep their wits about them, do some mental arithmetic, and shop around. No it's not.......it's up to supermarkets to stop trying to shaft the general public out of money by usine under-hand, sly pricing tactics! ---------- Post added 19-11-2013 at 13:45 ---------- It's hardly fraud or mis-selling. The offers are just invitations to buy. People have the choice to ignore them. If the company was offering one price and charging a higher one at the till or offering one quantity and handing over a smaller one for the same price you could say that was possible fraud. A store can price what they like and people can so yes or no. Caveat emptor rules on this. We're not talking about offers though, are we? We're talking about adjusting the actual price of a product, prior to putting it on offer, to make the offer seem like it's a better deal. That's wrong! Then they lie to us on their adverts about how they want to save us as much money as possible?! ---------- Post added 19-11-2013 at 13:48 ---------- It's really the shopper's own fault IMO. It's like when they see a bottle of wine for £5 at 50% off and are surprised when it doesn't taste like it's worth a tenner. Everyone trying to get money out of you WILL mislead you in some way, you just have to not believe everything they say in the advert. As the post above says, Sports Direct, everything perpetually 70% off, but people lap it up it...so they do it. It's got nothing to do with the taste of wine & not everyone in sales will try to mislead you. Misleading someone is wrong. They may try to convince you in to buying their product, that's not the same as misleading someone.
willman
I went to Blockbuster re liquidation, selected movies £6 each or 3 for £15. This week exact same movies £10 each, 40% off. It's a little misleading as to the true cost of the film even though the final price is similar.

alchresearch
yeah, because supermarkets care so much about their reputation, don't they <cough> <splutter> <horse> And how many were so outraged they stopped shopping at one particular supermarket? I can't even remember which one was the worst for horsemeat.
milquetoast1
It's not fraud, just part of the game in which we are the pawns. Just buy what you want, when you want, and ignore the bait of sale items. It's a false economy to get distracted by sale items in the long run, even the genuine ones. You end up with items in your wardrobe that you never wear, and items in your fridge that go off. Hardly a bargain even if 50% reduced.
geared
And how many were so outraged they stopped shopping at one particular supermarket? I can't even remember which one was the worst for horsemeat. Tesco/Iceland/ASDA wasn't it? Waitrose got caught with pig in Lamb and other stuff. Morissons were one of the few to come out of it unscathed weren't they?
Waldo
There needs to be a smart-phone app, where you can quickly scan a product's barcode and it tells you price history, and how the price compares with other supermarkets.
