Are you worried about your child..

Recommended Posts

I have to say that I hate the term "broken home"...

Apologies, I don't like the word either.

Problem is I don't know any other politically-correct terms for it, and as I was engaged in several other forums debates (arguments...) at the time, it was the only word I could think of :D

But now, it only takes an average of 3 clicks to find some explicit content on the web...

and if a young child sees something they are not sure what it is (an image of a female, nude or partially) - at that age (10+) you are curious, and would click it...

then it leads to who knows where....

From there, it's only learning and experimentation to the 10 y/o (they probably won't have been told about rape, and how bad it is, since they won't even know what sex is, or what they saw online etc..)

You do know what sex is at 10, we had our first proper sex ed lessons at that age (this was nearly 20 years ago as well) and most of the class already had some ideas (not always correct of course!!) about what sex is.

At least porn wasn't an issue then though...

I'm sure it does if you're actively looking for it, but could you find it in three clicks by accident?

I don't agree 100%... as a kid, I'd have asked parents or teachers about something I wasn't sure of, that's what they're there for, right?

Again, I don't fully agree.

A schoolboy neglected by his mother played out his ‘sexual fantasies’ by raping a girl under eight after he became addicted to extreme pornography, a court heard.

I'm sure that most 10 years old boys have played for more shooting / killing games than have wtched porn, but you don't get 10 year old boys shooting each other in the streets.

I would not be surprised to read that the boy was a damaged child from a broken home... I'm not for one second excusing his actions, but I don't think it's case of "he saw some naked girls one day on the internet, then the next day he sexually assaulted a young girl"

How did you guess.

A schoolboy neglected by his mother played out his ‘sexual fantasies’ by raping a girl under eight after he became addicted to extreme pornography, a court heard.

However, taking into account the seven years of neglect and the physical abuse meted out to him by her mother’s partner, the judge sentenced the defendant to a three-year youth rehabilitation order.

Children from failed relationships/broken marriages?

I used the term "damaged child from a broken home" instead of a child from a divorced family / broken marriage because there are plenty of children with divorced parents who don't commit this sort of horrific act, as they are still raised with the love, care and attention they need.

The term "broken home" is far stronger, but it's a much worse environment to be raised in :(

See reply to aliceBB above. I may be a swivel-eyed right-wing loony at the best of times, but it doesn't take a lefty liberal to work out that a young child raised in a loving, caring environment is highly unlikely to commit these acts.

Me and all my mates saw porn while still in primary school around aged only around 10, we didn't go looking for it, but it was on some of the older kids phones and they showed us it on their phones. Probably to laugh at our reaction to it. It also depends what you class as a "child" 14 year-olds are classed as children while in reality the hormones are pumping and they have more of a desire for this material than a lot of others. In my opinion the whole daily mail "war on porn" rhetoric is purely targeted at middle-class housewives who have nothing better to do than to worry about a enemy that isn't really there.
