honeyb35
Whitby would be my choice, but as Mel points out (and he should know) gets pretty quiet this time of year. Having said that, me and O/H rented a cottage there over Christmas a couple of years back and it was fantastic. Flying kites on a deserted snow-swept beach on Christmas day (bit like a Vettriano painting!) then back to the cottage for dinner in front of a roaring open fire (we'd taken Christmas decorations with us too!). Whitby was deserted, mainly due to the roads being impassable, but hey ... we had fun! We stayed again this summer but it was packed and pretty tacky ... it's much better in the winter! This sounds amazing! We hired a cottage near there last halloween, pretty old place but huge as we were staying with friends. We travelled down after the kids had finished school, it was up a long, unlit driveway, it was chucking it down with rain, but my friends had got there first, there was a lit fire and a glass of wine waiting for me. Best holiday ever.
