Steptoad
As the title says, who is your favourite local contemporary artist. I was just wondering if all Sheffield loves Pete Mckee or are Phlegm and Faunagraphic more to your taste? P.S. please don't turn this into a discussion on the merits, or the lack of them, of street art, there's already thread for that.

Nagel
I have a favourite Sheffield artist, but he's not contemporary. And I have a favourite local artist, but he's from Barnsley, not Sheffield. He's John Ledger who's had quite a few Sheffield exhibitions. He does huge pictures in great detail, all done in biro. Here's a taster, but they have a lot more impact when you see the real thing because of the scale - https://www.google.co.uk/search?biw=1361&bih=640&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=john+ledger+artist&oq=john+ledger+&gs_l=img.1.0.0l2j0i24l8.6171.6171.0.7629.1.1.0.0.0.0.102.102.0j1.1.0....0...1c.1.32.img..0.1.102.p9URYIJhtRE My favourite Sheffield artist was Harry Epworth Allen, see his stuff here - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=harry+epworth+allen&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=n5uOUoDvHoKShgeK-4CwDQ&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1361&bih=640&dpr=1 I don't rate Pete McKee at all and fail to see the appeal of his stuff. boyfriday
Peter Owen Jones, he paints scenes of Sheffield I remember as a child!!! Second that, his pictures of steam trains were fantastic, and a lovely guy-taught me how to use a camera and develop photographs!

Some nice choices there Nagel, why isn't Harry Epworth Allen more well known locally? I like Pete McKee's work, but when I went to see his recent exhibition at The Blue Shed, I was very relieved to see the Joe Scarborough at the end of it.
