Some nice choices there Nagel, why isn't Harry Epworth Allen more well known locally?

 

I'm glad you like his work. I have no idea why he isn't better known locally. There's one of his paintings on permanent display in the Graves Gallery, this one, which is easily recognisable as the countryside near Foolow -

I found out about him by going into a gallery in Rowsley which was holding an exhibition of his work. I didn't go there to see the exhibition, just dropped in and was bowled over by his paintings.

 

He's a respected artist and his paintings fetch a good price. Apparently the Duke of Devonshire is a fan and has bought a number of his works.

 

Harry Epworth Allen cropped up in Antiques Roadshow earlier this year where a couple of his Irish paintings were discovered and valued at £7,000 each. Here's the clip on YouTube:

real good pictures, im impressed

 

cant be the sean williams i knew from sheff tho i dont think, he was into punk and later the psychobilly band the radiacs

cant see painting being his thing lol

 

Not sure about that, I think Sean designed their current logo.
