The New Moor Market

Recommended Posts

Apparently they have a long list of applicants but they want to be choosy about who they let in and they are working there way through the list all the time losing money by having empty stalls way to go SCC.

You would think our useful council are deliberately wasting money as to avoid responsibility :hihi:

been in today 11ish very quiet, cafe area reasonable, too many empty stalls and I don't think stalls should be allowed to open/close as they want,as been in a few times and some stalls say closed for a few days, one said that today, shops cannot close on Saturdays

they should all be told to open every day,so customers know they are open thanks

Not a dig at you Jonesy, but who do SCC want in then Fortnum & Masons, Harrods? as you say while the faff they are losing money hand over fist.

I said to wife this morning as she goes to market with her mum Saturdays, can you get me some sweets (love sweets) from that little shop opposite Alex's Soda Fountain. Then I remembered the good old CM was now no more & it's the new market, I'm losing it.:loopy:

Exactly, don't they have it in a contract stating minimum opening hours and days open for business ???

Crazy isn't it most of Sheffield can see it makes sense to let the stalls and have a full market but SCC think it's better topick and chose who they want. They have recently turned down a friends application for a fruit shop as they said there was too many in there (there are 4) she had an excellent business plan and backing but was refused and there's all the people who had credible business's in the old market but we're also refused a stall as there business plans weren't good enough( the council provided help with business plans) but they we're still turned down.

There are buses that go to the market but what are the numbers of the buses that will take me and my shopping back to the tram or the Interchange?

47 and 48 go back to the Interchange or bacck to the old market site which you can catch on Cumberland Street (bottom of Moor) and are about every 8 minutes.

I don't know what their problem is, really, accept anything that comes in so long as it's nothing tatty and classes the place up.

I would not be sending out any negative messages about refusals and would happily provide a home for any independent business.

If SCC are holding out for specialist niche market or artisan bakery businesses then they need to have a rethink. I've had a walk round it today and it's like a cut down, but warm and cleaner version of the discusting old Castle Market. How on earth do they expect to attract anybody willing to spend money on quality products when they have the same old cheap tat and junk they had at the CM!!

I think you find that the remaining stalls are best from the old market, says a lot for Sheffield doesn't it :hihi:

They had artisan bakers in Castle Market & drove them away, wouldn't allow them in the new market early enough to bake bread. Now a guy with a funny moustache turns up a few days a week with a few odd bits of overpriced bread from seven hills bakery.

There is quality food there, not as much as at Castle Market, but a few of the stalls are still trading.

I'm not sure what SCC are thinking if they're turning down applications for stalls when it's half empty.
