The New Moor Market

Recommended Posts

I have asked before and got no answer but can anyone tell me why the fancy wooden architecture is on the side street ? you would have thought it would have been better placed over the entrance to the market

i know what you mean, they could have spent the money better on the main road entrance and the Moor entrance to entice people in, what the point of decoration on the side st, it wont have been cheap either:rolleyes:

Their is too much negative comment on this thread, it has been up and running for quite some time now and we all ought to give it a break.

why?? this council wastes our ratepayers money time and time again and there is not much positive ? wait til january when the place is like a ghost town

Sheffield Market is great and if more people shop there it will get even better.

Another new stall I noticed yesterday was one selling sweets and confectionery from around the world.

I was pleased to see that they sell the 'Spunk' brand Danish salty liquorice pastilles.

You got me curious. Since Bassetts went down hill its near impossible to find decent liquorice.

Actually salty liquorice is nice, but it's something of a love it or hate it flavour.

There are better brands than Spunk, but it's the one that Brits buy to take home, for obvious reasons.

Go get some?

It's almost as if people want it to fail.

Its not that people want it to fail, they're just not surprised that it is failing.

To expand on this, I wandered round last week and there's some great new stalls for slightly more unusual, Xmas-type food and drink that I'll be getting presents from tomorrow. I agree, not to everyone's tastes, but there is:

- A new stall selling fruit wines and liqueurs

- A new stall selling pies, including Xmas pies

- A new stall selling fresh, stone-baked pizza (probably only good for a lunchtime really)

- A new stall selling cured meats, olives etc. from Spain/Portugal, as you say.

Combined with beer central for some unusual beers, it's a good place to shop, in my opinion. It's not full and could be better, but no need for such negativity.

You'd expect a few new stalls in the run up to Christmas especially when the council are offering four week rent free periods for new traders.

It will be interesting to see how many of the new stallholders will still be there in six months.

Get good quality salmon cheaper from morrisons. When we want to pay more we go to MS and waitrose, not the market.

Do we want the market to fail? No, not at all, but the provider has to do the job for the business to become a success.
