The New Moor Market

Recommended Posts

The Manpower building is going nowhere, loads of SCC and Capita staff have moved in there and the building is almost full again.

As this building will be with us for many decades to come, we need to start improving how it affects the Moor. We can start with opening up a pedestrian route through it and making that the clear and obvious way through to London Road. At the moment the Moor seems to end at Cumberland Street (the bit in front of Moorfoot looks like it's not worth crossing the road for).

Does it actually "affect" the Moor anyway? I think thats a huge myth perpetuated by geeks on forums like this.

The biggest impact if any is on London Road which seems cut off from the City Centre when it isn't at all.

Nearly every retail development takes time to become successful.

Particularly true with the new market as it is so far from the other one and in an area which is in the middle of major development.

Some stalls will be successful while others will not its all part of the process.

When the cinema and other developments are complete there will be many more people down there.

The old markets may have been great once but in the latter years they were firmly on the decline personally I found the whole area quite depressing towards the end.

Apparently many council jobs are being relocated to the manpower building which should bring more trade to the area.

Although London Road is buzzing in the evenings and the Moor is totally dead.

Exactly London Road has moved towards a night time economy of bars and restaurants totally divorced from the Moor which is predominantly daytime retail.

But then London Road is busy during the day as well. You seem to mistake having your finger chopped off with your finger having you chopped off. It is the Moor that is cut off not London Road.
