The New Moor Market

Are we moving back to the market?

Sorry tigger the Markets that have been a part of Sheffield's history for over a thousand years have now been destroyed by the Town Planners.

However there is a downsized version on the edge of Town that you can reach by a free bus from Castle Gate:rolleyes: although the tram does not go near enough for any one with heavy shopping bags to use.;)

Good job the trams were there for a thousand years near the old one though otherwise nobody would have used them

I meant are we moving off the old chestnut of the right to have tap water in a pub or restaurant.

Cuttsie when they knock castle market down, then you could apply for a new stall on the exact spot of the old market, dress up and recreate an ye olde cuttsies castle market with added tram for the tourists.

ps I think you will find it was the shoppers who deserted the markets and buggered off to the supermarkets or high street retailers etc that caused the decline. At one stage you had sheaf and castle markets which is a very big combined space, but they still declined.

Sorry rrr its ongoing.

1. Thread had diverged from talking about the market to an arument about tap water.

2. Cuttsie doesnt ,like the new market, is very negative about it and believes it should have stayed where it was. I would say he was stuck very firmly in the past and cant accept things have changed. I was suggesting he might want to return to the good old market days of the 13th century or earlier by opening his own stall to keep the market presence going when the site is redeveloped and castle archaeologists move in.
