London North East Railways telegraph office in the 40's

There is another forum member, bern351, who worked in the telegraph office in Sheffield around 1960. Unfortunately it is not possible to send a personal message to him via this forum. From what I remember, he told me was that the work involved sending messages about the movement of goods, waggons & trains, also communicating with signal boxes. They also sent telegrams for the public on payment of a fee. I can't remember the technical details but morse code & single-needle telegraphy were used for signalling. It all sounds like Victorian-era technology.
