McDoodle
If its still got some or all of the serial number i think you can change it at a bank.
Resident
IIRC for it to be exchangeable more than 75% of the note must be intact. If I'm right the reason for that is to stop people tearing them in half and then claiming 2 new notes from the 2 halves.
leebeee
Yes the serial number is still there its the other half that's gone but no there's about 60-65% left cheers anyway
spilldig
You will really have to stop lighting those cigars with them. Joking aside though I hope you get it replaced o'k.
Andy
You can send it off to the Bank of England - See here: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/pages/damaged_banknotes.aspx A bank may change it for you, but usually only if you have an account with them. I'm not sure if a Post Office would change it. ---------- Post added 08-12-2013 at 16:15 ---------- IIRC for it to be exchangeable more than 75% of the note must be intact. ccit
On the site mentioned above there is a form to print off. Fill it in (it has a section for your bank details) and send it to the Leeds address together with the note. They will put the money into your bank account. I recently did this and the money was in my bank within about 7 to 10 days. BTW I sent it recorded delivery for extra security.

Someone mentioned the 75% figure to me years ago.
