Credit cards in pubs.

Recommended Posts

That must be why Kelham Island has been such a failure.

Fair point. However, I wouldn't agree that a handful of rather niche real ale pubs some with a high price tag (case in point: Milestone, Broadfield and Sheffield Tap) are a comparator to the thousands of "traditional" locals that failed to move on and have closed.

Kelham Island pubs have a good selling point which creates their specialism and following from people seeking a certain thing.

I frequently pay by debit card.

I open a tab. At the end, I pay the bill in one go. I'd imagine the cost to the landlord is around 23p. Which, considering my tab often exceeds £50, £60, £70 pounds, is well worth the cost.

Debit card transactions attract a set figure (ie, 25p per transaction). Credit cards attract a set percentage (ie, 2.5%).

It says as much about punters that would rather waste time waiting and then fiddling with the machines rather than get a wedge out of the ATM on their way to the pub.

In town on a Friday night the queues for cash machines can be in double digits. It's sometimes easier to use a card in the pub than to queue for 10 minutes in the rain to get cash.

You should get half hammered at home before you go out, its a much better way for binge drinkers like you who cannot wait to pay for a drink.

Who said I was a binge drinker. The days of Night Nurse & Jagermeister are behind me now. It is just annoying that service time takes much longer and increases the number of folk at the bar. This allows the drunken macho males who never move from the bar to shove in front of you. It is almost as annoying as tripping over folk like you laid in the gutter outside.

You miss the point. The point I was making was what is to stop the bank putting up their fees for banking all the cash that the pub takes to make more profit?
sorry i missunderstood but yes your right about the banks putting up fees them parasites will do owt to rob you :hihi:

Has anyone else noticed how many folk are using plastic cards in pubs these days?

Last night in a bar trying to get a drink. It seemed the bar staff spent more time swiping cards for a round of drinks than they did actually serving them.

totally agree with you although I pay by debit card for many things I don't order drinks with it in busy pubs,I actually think its quite rude to do so when there are loads of people waiting

Have seen large groups order one drink each and all pay by individual cards which takes for ever it only takes a tiny bit of planning to ensure you nip to the bank machine or bring cash.
