BEDROCK
I think it may still be in the experimental stage. I wonder what the tag line would be: "Microwave Beds, Sleep in 2 Minutes"
Redyam
A study was done showing that during REM sleep, it is one of the very rare times when the brain is shut down, to the extent that memories formed during the day can be sorted out. Important stuff learned is cast into long-term storage, and all the junk is thrown out. The study also showed that those who didn't sleep properly didn't get this important time for sorting out the brain, forgetting lots of important things that should have been remembered. I would provide a link, but I've forgetten where I read this due to not sleeping enough
RootsBooster
I think the end result from not sleeping is death! I may be wrong. You're not wrong. It is a long and horrible death, insanity sets in before you reach the miserable end
Maz3
It's a mistake to see sleep as wasted time. Your brain is still active as mentioned previously, sorting out your memory and making sense of the previous day's input. Memory is vital; it's the key to your identity as well as your functioning, and once that goes you are on the way out.

Pritt Stick
A friend has told me recently that if they have a spliff before bedtime they don't dream, or certainly don't remember dreaming anything upon waking. They think this might be why they are so tired and niggly the next day. They don't feel they are getting their REM sleep because of the weed. Anybody have any thoughts / experience of this? Guest
But what does your body actually get from sleep? I take it you've heard of a search engine? Or maybe a library?
