Its time to stop LEGAL AID

Recommended Posts

That's your argument for your proposal? You're not even going to try to substantiate it, or probably to learn what amount legal aid is limited to?

Make solicitors available for everyone free like duty solicitors and channel legal aid money elsewhere more worth while..... its a fact of life that innocent people go to jail and guilty people walk free eg Ian Bradey thousands spent on him and what for should have just hung him!

legal aid a waste of money only the lawyers benefit:huh:

What? Do the people who use it to get justice also think it's a waste of money?

Make solicitors available for everyone free like duty solicitors

So in essence, just give it a different name.

and channel legal aid money elsewhere more worth while.....

As in, payment for duty solicitors perchance?

Hilarious! You use an example that completely fails to represent the statement you made, in the same sentence!

Which camp does Ian Brady fall into out of those two?

In a civil matter it's going to be one person against another, no lawyers
You try and negotiate a settlement with the insurers of a business at which an employed relative was accidentally killed (and which insurers will come to that meeting with a barrister at least), and/or sue them if/when a settlement is not reached, without a lawyer and let me know how you get on ;)

Patent infringement (e.g.) is another such civil matter. Are you seriously suggesting patentees should try to enforce their rights without legal representation?

Just some examples off my head, I'm sure there's countless more. I'm aware these would not qualify for legal aid in the first place. But to suggest that lawyers are irrelevant to civil matters is a bit too broad-brushed...

Would that be dealt with via legal aid? Would the state really pay for the patentee's legal costs? Genuine question Loob..

Why should solicitors work for free? What a crazy idea. The vast majority of solicitors (90-95%)have nothing to do with legal aid. You really dont seem to understand about legal services or the administration of justice.
