Why do people put themselves at risk when warned not to?

Recommended Posts

I'm referring to the bad weather certain areas have been battered with, the weathermen and authorities beg people not to go near the sea & yet we have this see link.

Do these morons really have such a low opinion of their lives that they willingly risk them, utter stupidity, we have had stories of people losing their lives through going in or near the sea, why do they do it?

If you look carefully at the image and think how a long lens works I suspect that no one was in danger when that picture was taken.

That does not, however, excuse some peoples stupidity.

That's a good point Alien52, if you look at the 2nd picture (link below) the scene still looks mad, but less mad. I think the first pic demonstrates the compression of distance with a telephoto lens (photographers will probably put me right).

They're being encouraged by the press, obviously! The Daily Mash, as usual, has the answer....

It certainly looks like a trick of the photo angle.

In that second picture it kinda looks like the pub place on the left is still open and everyone is just gathered outside looking at the storm.

Think you're right there, from Google Maps the building in the foreground is some distance from the lighthouse in the background.

People just think "I'll be alright".

I mean, I eat stuff I shouldn't, I drink too much of a night out, other people take smack or smoke cigarettes...we know we shouldn't, but we do it anyway.

I think it's in us evolutionary, who knows, if cavemen stayed in their caves in a flood, they might have drowned...therefor it might be in us to take risks - it might go right, it might go wrong.

Because we like to venture past the limits of safety in the pursuit of a rewarding and exciting experience.
