chalga
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/jan/06/george-osborne-britain-cuts-austerity With love from George. Osborne built on previous warnings about the need to intensify austerity, on top of billions of pounds of existing cuts, even though the economy appears to be turning a corner. In the speech, he said the job of fixing the economy was "not even half done". "That's why 2014 is the year of hard truths," he said.
Mister M
Just as long as it's the poor and vulnerable that have to face the hard truths, and not the well off
SevenRivers
Hopefully we can get back to a budget surplus, then get to work on the national debt.
Lee_
If we stopped handing over billions a year to ungrateful foreign lost causes and scroungers we would be a lot better off. Sadly no government has the balls to face that hard truth.
geared
The posturing for the next election is well under way then. I can't see anyone doing well if they tell people more cuts and more tax rises are in store.
tinfoilhat
Close all tax avoidance loopholes, drop corporation tax to 12%. Now how long did that take?
Supertramp
Close all tax avoidance loopholes, drop corporation tax to 12%. Now how long did that take? It's pretty hard to close them all, you see the big companies can afford to pay more than the governement so they have the better legal eagles and the better accountants. esme
Well I believe the average MP's salary is around £66,000/pa not counting expenses and there are 650 elected MP's last I heard. So that's £42,900,000 or nearly £43 million per year Perhaps some fat could be trimmed off that budget, after all we're all in it together -- EDIT -- checked against http://www.parliament.uk/about/faqs/house-of-commons-faqs/members-faq-page2/ How many MPs are there in the House of Commons? After the General Election 2010, 650 MPs were elected. What is the annual salary of an MP? £66,396 as of 1 April 2013. So thats 650x66396 or £43,157,400/year Maybe that could be rounded down to £43 million ? or would that cause howls of protest
