Role Models needed!

Recommended Posts

Got some time on your hands and looking for a way to give something back in 2014?

Do you have the motivation to help and support a vulnerable family?

Could you be a reliable, consistent and positive presence in a family’s life?

CSV’s pioneering Volunteers supporting Families project is looking for inspiring volunteers who understand the difficulties faced by families with additional or complex needs, who are good listeners and are keen to support and mentor families in their local community.

We work closely with Social Services to complement the services they offer. It’s about taking the time to listen to families, acting as a strong role model and giving practical help and support. You’ll need to live locally and be able to commit to at least one visit a week for a minimum of six months. This is a demanding role but we will be here to train and support you every step of the way.

Typically, our volunteers will:

• Visit the family regularly at set times

• Build a trusting relationship based on mutual respect

• Offer appropriate support to help improve parenting skills

• Carry out appropriate practical tasks to assist the family

• Provide a sound role model to children and parents

• Help the family access available community resources (for example, health information, education providers, Citizens Advice Bureau)

• Observe confidentiality

• Share issues and concerns with Social Care teams or other relevant professionals with the consent of the parents wherever possible and appropriate

• Keep written records and submit them regularly to CSV

If you want to find out more about CSV’s Volunteers supporting Families project, or if you think you have the qualities we are looking for in a volunteer, then please contact the Project Co-ordinator Rachael Eyton at rachael.eyton@sheffield.gov.uk or call 0114 273 4863.
