Nuisance phone calls claiming to be EE/Orange

Has anyone else had these calls lately saying they're from EE/Orange/other networks and offering you freebies or better deals for being a 'loyal customer'?

I google'd the numbers they rang me from and they seemd to be suspicious.

They know the name of the account holder and know what phone I've got but don't ask me to answer security questions. When I had problems with my EE signal every time I rang them/they rang me I had to answer these security questions before they would do anything else.

Phoned EE and didn't really get anywhere, they just thanked me for letting them know and told me they will only ever call from '08' numbers.

Any ideas of help?

I'd just say 'no thanks' in general when they offer you freebies - say if they are who they say they are, put it in your account notes and you'll go into your nearest EE store to pick up the 'freebie'

I had a caller today saying I was on a register of industrial workers and then asked me what type of industrial work I had done.

He could not tell me who had compiled the register.

He was canvassing for industrial deafness problems.

How do these companies get hold of our phone numbers in the first place?

It was probably Orange/EE, they do that. You gave them your number when you signed up for the contract.
