OAP pass, getting out and about/potential cuts

Recommended Posts

it will have a massive impact on disabled workers and college/uni students. Not being able to use the pass before 930 means that potentially half the journeys taken will be paid for full fare. If they made it half fare before this time it would be fairer. Remember, disabled peoples passes basically replace cars for people who cant drive. Its not for people on benefits...

makes a change from us younger people getting hammered for tax

I would start cycling and every time I have a seizure they can call an ambulance.

That would be a lot more expensive than continuing the disabled pass.

Oh and all the legal aid fees to discuss how cycling or walking would be my only way of travel and if I black out and bump or scratch a car it is really because I cannot morally pay such large bus fees for such a bad and slow service.

...

The OAP and disabled persons concessionary travel scheme could also be scaled back so that weekday free travel is available from 9.30am to 11pm, bringing South Yorkshire in line with the rest of the country outside of London. ...

No! Here in North Lincs. our bus passes are valid in the early morning..:)

The article says that these cuts "are due to be considered next week by councillors" which I presume they will have to approve.

Pensioners also have the vote and more likely to use it than younger people. Councillors might do well to remember that ...

60 year old pensioners who cannot have free bus travel at any time can also vote.

58 year olds and younger who will pay full fare until they are 66 also have a vote.
