sweetdexter
Flipping hell 912 years working, you must be knackered. Yes, I was lucky not to get roped into that Battle of Hastings thing I had a full time job painting the Sheilds.
Alaniow
I worked for Flint Brothers. Opposite the Abbeydale Cinema on Machon Bank. Flints had the contracts on all Tennant's Pubs. We also worked in most of the major steel works particularly during the wakes weeks when they closed down July/August

IRONMONGER
W.J.Wollerton in Turners Lane, Broomhill with a showroom on Whitham Road. Murfin's on Spooner Road, also in Broomhill. Or what about W. Ivey Schroeder with a shop front on Whitham Road and a yard backing onto Beech Hill Road, he was a brilliant sign writer. Never forget Paul Carrack's father with a shop on Crookes, he was tragically killed in the early sixties whilst decorating the staircase of a house in Hallam Grange Crescent- immortalised in Paul's hit song "My father's eyes". Think that's a song written and recorded by Eric Clapton - I could be wrong here! Paul ran the shop until very recently, his brother Mike (of the mechanics) was the musician. Paul's brother, John, ran the shop until his recent retirement. A crying shame that the BBC did not televise Paul at Glastonbury. Mike Rutherford and Paul Carrack being brothers? I do not believe it!!!
