El Cid
Hi If I was to save all my metal, and instead of putting it in the green bin, I saved it and took it to the local weigh in waste site. Would it be worth my time? A friend told me that an old washer is worth around £6, £70 for an old copper boiler. How about if a squash my old tins and those bath taps, and a few other metal bits? Maz3
Hmmm ... How much is your time worth?
El Cid
Hmmm ... How much is your time worth? It would just mean another bin, metal only, and then weigh it in at the waste yard a mile down the road. Surely the council will make money from some of its waste recycling. Men in vans are able to make money, just pointlessly driving around looking for old scrap.
Maz3
Wouldn't it lead to an increase in people nosing round your back garden, looking for stuff to nick?
El Cid
Wouldn't it lead to an increase in people nosing round your back garden, looking for stuff to nick? I do have in outhouse, I do sometimes think my metal mop bucket might be a target for metal thieves; but would they risk it for £1-£5 worth of scrap. nick2011
Last time I weighed some scrap in, it was about £125 per tonne [1000kg] so I think it would take a few bins full to make it worth your while.
