Should the Moor have a roof?

I think this idea has been around for quite a while.

 

Do you think the moor should be roofed?

 

If so, who should fund it? Tax payers, the shop keepers, mixture of both?

Not fully undercover......... but, I think every shop should have a uniform style glass cover. They would need to stick out more than the existing concrete ones do. They should also be 'folding' so in hot weather, they can be electronically retracted so they are pulled upwards towards the wall from which they 'hang'.

 

As for paying for them..... a mix between the council and the shops.

If you want a shopping centre with a roof, then we could build one and call it something catchy like Meadowhall I suppose...?

No... cos all the other shops down the Haymarket end of town would go bust, cos nobody goes down that end of town except for the Markets.

I dont think they would go bust as the bus stops are still there, so people will still use them. I don't shop at the markets but I still shop on Waingate.

Yeah i think sheff centre should have more undercover bits like leeds has its a lot more convenient in the rain and it also looks a lot more upmarket too.

Why should the taxpayer pay for it? The Moor belongs (on a 125 yr lease) to Deutsche Bank, not the Council.

 

Deutsche have had plans for The Moor for ages, but the Council keeps getting in the way because it's protecting its NRQ scheme next door. I wouldn't expect anything much in the near future unless they manage to put the market community back together.

Whats the point of roofing somewhee that is home to loads of awful nasty shops and dodgy street traders?

 

Roof or no roof, until it stops being so trashy and skeffy, I'm never going down there.
