Doom
Kabul under the Taleban had better beer than Barnsley and Rotherham. I can't argue with that. Regards Doom
JFKvsNixon
More and more major recording artists are choosing Chesterfield over Sheffield when it comes to live performances in this area. We are a town on the rise whereas Sheffield is a city on the decline. When major recording artists such as The Beach Boys, Kelly Clarkson, a-ha, Avril Lavigne, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Bruno Mars, Queen + Paul Rodgers, Elton John, Meat Loaf, Peter Andre, Bryan Adams, Depeche Mode, Katy Perry, Joss Stone, Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Janet Jackson, Will Smith, Tina Turner, Cher, Bon Jovi, Nicki Minaj, P!nk, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Drake, Simply Red, Jessie J, Sting, Prince and Kylie Minogue. Britney Spears, Kasabian, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Westlife, Take That, Scissor Sisters, Oasis, Status Quo, Girls Aloud, Arctic Monkeys, Kiss, Bee Gees, Muse, Green Day, Paramore, Jay-Z and Kanye West, blink-182, JLS, The Wanted, Black Grape and Pulp have played Chesterfield then you may have a point. Well you have a point, but then 5 years ago Chesterfield didn't have a venue for major acts and Sheffield had 3, The City Hall, The Arena, and the Stadium. Now Chesterfield has one and Sheffield has lost it's outdoor stadium. Last year Leeds didn't have an Arena but Sheffield did. Now Leeds has an arena..... Sheffield still has Don Valley Bowl, where the Arctic Monkeys played their outdoor concerts. It also has Bramall Lane and Hillsborough for stadium concerts, and lots of other outdoor space for one off concerts. You've also missed out the O2 Academy, where bands such was Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and Smashing Pumpkins have played.

smiggs
Sheffield still has Don Valley Bowl, where the Arctic Monkeys played their outdoor concerts. It also has Bramall Lane and Hillsborough for stadium concerts, and lots of other outdoor space for one off concerts. Don't forget Graves Park, where Richard Hawley and the Levellers played last year. Not sure what the capacity is but my guess would be that the promoters and police get to choose given the amount of open space. Sheffield Arena host Kings of Leon on the 17th June if you fancy seeing stars of today rather than Tom Jones cash in tour, I know they're not announced the prices for Chesterfield but elsewhere it's £40-50 a head. I'd reckon Bramall Lane and Hillborough would suffer the same issues as Don Valley Stadium, they're just too big for a concert. The notional capacity of Don Valley stadium for a concert was 50,000. Good luck with getting parked or getting public transport unless the council put on a special effort to sort it out properly for the event. You've also missed out the O2 Academy, where bands such was Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and Smashing Pumpkins have played. The Academy is a dump, and needs a serious revamp or knocking down medium sized bands are starting to skip it.

Stoatwobbler
Last year Leeds didn't have an Arena but Sheffield did. Now Leeds has an arena..... That's more of a concern in terms of big acts being lured away from Sheffield then the Proact Stadium IMHO.
