Tom Jones to play Chesterfield. Why not Sheffield Stadium.

Recommended Posts

Can a town of 100,000 people accommodate another 15,000 tourists?

I've a soft spot for Chezzy and I wish them all the best, but...

I suspect a large part of that crowd might be Chesterfield residents not used to having major concerts in their town.

It's like a friend of mine who insisted on seeing Elton John play at Colchester United's football ground even though he isn't an Elton John fan. For him it was the novelty of having such a major name playing his home town more then anything else.

More likely that 15,000 will travel in, go to the gig and go straight home. Some may call at Tesco next door but the idea that 15,000 are going to flood the hotels and restaurants of Chesterfield is laughable.

I suspect that the Beer Parlour and the Derby Tup will do well out of a Tom Jones concert. :)

I take it someone who posts as much on the forum as you do hardly gets out at all.

I don't have as many usernames as you though. Is there nothing else to do in your Derbyshire backwater apart from moan about Sheffield's nightlife, in particular concerts and high heels?

I'd expect a Tom Jones audience to head for the British Legion or Darby and Joan.
