Politicians want it all ways

Recommended Posts

Just watching the politics show, they were talking about the cross rail project and Patrick McLoughlin was saying how much was being done by the Government. Andrew Neil said you inherited the project to which he replied we are building it, is he saying it is the Tories that should get the credit? Yet all we hear from them when it is anything to do about austerity it is all Labours fault. Seems like any good stuff the last lot did they want to claim credit for and all the crap is still down to Labour.

It's more interesting to note that nobody disagrees or raises any questions about crossrail, despite the fact that it is being built in London across the most densely packed public transport system ever made.

Whereas for some HS2 is controversial. It connects across hundreds of miles, provides much needed rail capacity and will cost a fraction of crossrail's per mile cost.

There have been disagreements about Crossrail such as complaints about buildings like the Astoria being knocked down in central London. The complaint about HS2 is the amount of countryside that will be blighted. This isn't an issue with Crossrail as it will run on or parallel to existing transport infrastructure.

I never heard of the crossrail project until now and that about says it all.

It's the biggest building project in Europe and was approved by the last Labour government. If you'd been in central London in the last few years you'd have noticed it.
