Platoon was 1986 and The Untouchables was 1987. Platoon had little competition that year IMO, however my favourite wasn't even nominated lol. The 1987 winner was The Last Emperor duh? Another fave of mine was An Officer and a Gentleman in 1983, that wasn't nominated either, See what I mean?

thats cos they have never gone on what people like, its the critics / academy people and generally it goes for arty, talky films

Arrival 9/10 - wonderful film, beautifully shot, far more about humanity and life than about alien contact really. Superb scenes trying to show how difficult it would be trying to communicate with something that has a completely new language and how hard it is to avoid misinterpreting things based on your own thoughts. Perfect mix of intensity, emotion, politics, plot, act, beautiful graphics etc. Not sure why I'm not giving it a 10 now I think about it...

Moonlight 7/10

I don't think this ought to have won the Oscars for best film. I found it slow and ponderous, with too many long camera shots on the actors. Also, I found difficulty in understanding some of the dialogue.

Agree with you about Moonlight. Saw it last night. Luckily it was subtitles night at the Showroom, which helped! I also found the dialogue a bit forced. Does anyone really talk like that? Whole conversations made up of wise-sounding platitudes, but where nothing actually gets said!

Some good performances though, and I liked the look of it, but very ponderous.

Head Shot - 6/10

The latest Iko Uwais action film in which he plays an amnesiac who is hunted by a group of assassins (not the most original premise). It's very violent and bloody and the fight scenes are brilliantly done (as expected from Uwais) but. unlike Gareth Evans' 'The Raid' movies, whoever filmed this didn't have flair behind the camera and it lets down those fight scenes.
