Croupier - 6/10

Clive Owen-starring neo noir about a man who wants to be a writer and takes a job in a casino in the hope that he can use the experience as the basis of a story.

I really enjoyed this film, and would give it a higher rating. It's the sort of film that's out of fashion these days - well written, fairly realistic, not fast moving and treats the audience like adults.

It's a decent film but I found the traditional noir narration to be a bit grating at times, as was Clive Owen's character... although that was probably a deliberate choice.

The Black Phone 8/10

Think this is the first time Ethan Hawke has played a negative role in his career.

Good, edge of the seat chiller about a child seriel killer, who is abducting young 14-15 yr old boys.

Thor: Love And Thunder  6/10

In the first few Thor films he was based around the comics. A strong-willed powerful god. Then the humour started creeping in. 'Ragnarok' was amusing, but by this movie the character is just a comedic buffoon.

Good to see Sif back, but she wasn't in it long enough. The GOTG scenes were great, but again, they were underused. Anyone familiar with Thor's background knows that Jane Foster as his replacement/partner/lover doesn't make it to the final reel, so that was always a - ah! - dead end story-wise.

Unsatisfying.
