Saw it yesterday at the Curzon Cinema, just off the High St, & it was pleasant way to spend a couple of hours, mainly watching a film set in Paris in the midst of a bin strike, 'crucial sub-plot to tidy up loose ends in the final few minutes of the film), in the early 1950's, about a London cleaner, and who dreams of owning a Christian Dior, haute couture dress.

A romantic, light comedy drama, with Mrs Harris, (Lesley Manville's character), initially dismissed by the Dior staff & minor French aristocracy as a 'invisible nobody' not worthy of the dress she disires but wins everyone over with her British working class attitude & of course finds love,  not with the French Count but the local London bookie, she's known for ages.

Better than your average, feel good film.  7.75 / 10 .  Destined to be a Boxing Day night film at some stage.

Mrs Harris goes to Paris.

As above.

Excellent feel-good film for the family 9/10 (best film of 2022?)

Fall (2022)

Two young women climb a 2,000 ft radio tower in the middle of nowhere - what could go wrong?

Sounds like the sort of film you'd give a miss to - don't,

Fully enjoyed this piece of nonsense, loved the twist at the end / shouted at the improbable bits

 good 8/10

Keep safe out there 8).

'Awakenings.'

Good ghost story with twist ending.

Set just after the first world war, Rebecca Hall plays a cynical paranormal investigator sent to a boys private school to investigate strange goings on. With Dominic West with Imelda Staunton. 8/10

'The Lost City' - probably a 6 out of ten

It's not exactly bad, but it's far too close in feel to 'Romancing The Stone' for its own good. Felt I'd seen it all before.  Not in any great hurry to see it again.

(Might have been better on the big screen. The scenery is spectacular).

'The Banshees of Inisherin', starring Colin Farrell & Brenda Gleeson.

Very dark, (literally when the plot takes characters into their tiny cottages & the pub), drama but with comedy moments, usually brought about by the dialogue & Irish idiosyncrasies.

Set in a small rural farming community on an island off the west coast of Ireland in 1923.  The story revolves round the sudden break up of the friendship between Farrell & Gleeson's characters, when Gleeson decides that Farrell is an idiot & they no longer have anything meaningful to say to each other.

When Farrell tries to rekindle the relationship, Gleeson, who's character is an accomplished fiddle player, usually found playing in the pub, Gleeson gives Farrell an ultimatum; if he doesn't stop bothering him, everytime he does, Gleeson will cut off one of his own fingers.

Good supporting cast & a donkey belonging to Farrell:s character, crucial to the plot, provide some lighter comedy moments.

The film isn't a good as the last pairing of Farrell & Gleeson in 'In Bruges' but its a very original storyline & we'll acted.

Film on 4 had a hand in the production so expect to see it on tv some time in 2023 / 24.

7/10 for originality.

I'll give this a go, In Bruges is a fantastic film.

'Love In The Villa' - 6 out of 10

Opposites attract when 2 people find they're booked into the same holiday villa in Verona. Some laughs as they try to get the other one out through various pranks/sabotage.

Tom Hopper steals every scene he's in. The camera loves him.

In a romantic film like this I expected the director would try to get him to do some impressive dancing as a nod to his excellent moves with Emmy Raver-Lampman in 'The Umbrella Academy'. Didn't quite pan out.

Pure romantic tosh, but decent enough if you're in the mood to go down that route. Worth watching for the beautiful scenery around Verona.
