A Walk Among The Tombstones - 6/10 - Another tough guy role for Liam Neeson as a PI asked to investigate the murder of a drug dealers wife, not bad but some of the peripheral characters are very annoying.

Death Proof - 7/10 - Lesser Tarantino but still Tarantino so worth a look.

American Sniper - 7/10 - There has been some debate as to whether this film should portray Chris Kyle as a hero or not but put that aside and its a good film, the tour of duty sections are very powerful.

Kingsman: The Secret Service - 7/10 - Quite violent amped up OTT Bond-like film, entertaining but a bit overlong.
That church scene is movie cult material.

Everest, powerful, not fun or uplifting, based on a true story, lots of everest footage, then most everyone dies.

8/10

Mods, can we have spoiler tags enabled? :D

Sicario

Solid 9+.

I expect Oscar nominations for Roger Deakins (cinematography) and Benicio Del Toro (supporting actor). Emily Blunt is also en forme, and in parts truly excellent. Film of the year for me, so far.

John Wick

8+

Best revenge flick in years, superior action/choreography/legend-building, best Keanu Reeves vehicle since the Matrix.

The RAID 2

8+

Worthy sequel to the original, the continuity between both movies is excellent. This is just as visceral an action movie as the first (so up there in anyone's "top 10 action flicks since, well, ever"), in parts still more violent, and the cast of villains is straight out of a manga (see Kill Bill 1/2 for a more westernised version).

The Gift 7/10

I don't know if this was a thriller or drama- but it does keep you glued because you expect something 'big' is going to happen.

Either way it's a decent film, Joel Egerton is good and creepy.

Suffragette.

7.25/10.00

Very good. Bit too much shaking camera work, and plunging focus effects, but resisted the urge to turn it into a story of redeption, love, regret etc or tacking on a boss fight or emotional closure sequence, etc. Great performances, convincing, not too long.

Get On Up - 6/10 - Biopic of James Brown whilst the lead actor Chadwick Boseman is brilliant as JB the editing and non-chronology of the story make it a mess which is a shame.

It Follows - 4.5/10 - Homage to 80's horror films that doesn't really work.

We went to see The Martian on Sunday. Wasn't expecting much but it was pretty good. I can see it becoming a new version of Apollo 13....one of those films you can happily watch over again.

It had our very own Sean Bean in it and he played a character called Mitch Henderson...couldn't help but wonder if the Henderson was deliberate!
