handypandy
As has been suggested, it will be an old cable outlet for a heater, maybe even a storage heater. Your electrician may be Polish. .
dosxuk
Mobile phones were around in , so it could easily be an early charge socket for them. No it couldn't. What it is has been answered by several helpful posters already. Watch it and weep dosxuk! Shouldn't you be working on one of your tedious stories? Jim Hardie
It isn't a socket, it's a connection unit for a round flex. If you intend to use it for a heater it ought to be replaced by a fused unit such as this.
Alcoblog
No it couldn't. What it is has been answered by several helpful posters already. I suppose a space/time portal for earthworms is a bit too far fetched for you as well then?

Yes looking at it that is what it is and I can only guess for a heater like others have suggested but why would you need a heater when there is a light heater that glows and a duct heating in there? maybe the previous owners just needed more warmth

davyboy
Looks like a cable outlet....... for a cooker oven, taking 13amp heatproof round cable. If so and active then behind it will be a terminal block In the bathroom???????
Bruno
Could be a jack socket to connect your MP3 player so you can have music whilst you bathe.
