Poetry and Music at Bishops' House Saturday 22nd February at 7.30pm:

Helen Tookey returns with her first collection of poems, Missel Child, published by Carcanet in January. Jeffrey Wainwright's response is typical of the critical acclaim which has greeted the collection:

"Missel-Child is an exceptional volume. Some of the subject-matter is ‘found’, some comes from a powerful and intelligent imagination and from keen observation. All is embodied in a language that is sensuous and strong."

Sharron Kraus is a singer of traditional folk songs, a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. As well as drawing on the folk traditions of England and Appalachia, her music is influenced by gothic literature, surrealism, myth and magick. Her songs tell intricate tales of rootless souls, dark secrets and earthly joys, the lyrics plucked as sonorously as her acoustic guitar.

"..a sparkling clear voice that can sound as ancient and elemental as rain, stone, or soil" - Matthew Murphy

Join us for a unique evening where Helen and Sharron will be performing not only their own work, but for the first time a collaborative piece also.

A complimentary glass of wine or juice will be served during the interval.

Tickets £5 at the door, doors open 7.30pm with the performance to begin promptly at 7.45pm
