truman
The OP asked for a car derived van, the Transit isn't. I had a Berlingo years ago, did 120,000 miles from new without a single problem. Royal Mail and Euro Car Parts use Peugeot and Citroen vans a great deal. The Transit Connect is car derived isn't it?
Dick
I'd recommend a Vauxhall Astra van. I get mine from British Car Auctions at Brighouse. Last one was £3,500 for a year old with 46k miles on the clock. That was 2007. Now has 98k on the clock and never had any trouble with it.
alchresearch
Yep, Transit Connect is. I was concerned that it was straying OT into generic full sized Transit discussion

tinfoilhat
Most vans are "good" if you get good one. Our one packed up after 186k and I was surprised when it did. I've driven several with well over 200k. Take a good, good look at what ever van you fancy and get one that hasn't been badly abused.
