native son
Northumberland is beautiful. And you can always call in at Beamish which is absolutely brill. Northumberland. Seahouses. Craster. Bamburgh. Fantastic beaches. Great pubs/restaurants. Plenty of history and places to visit. best part of England but don't tell anyone or they will all go. Its like cornwall but without the tourists. BIGDINNERS
Whitby is spot on for a few days peace and quiet, York is OK also but not as calm and relaxing-plenty to do if not been before, and its easy to get to,try going by train ,return tickets are available for around £5 which costs less than parking fees. Just got back from my first visit to the Lakes and found it brilliant even with terrible weather, depends if you like walking. Suppose it depends what you want:huh: ---------- Post added 01-03-2014 at 07:54 ---------- Northumberland. Seahouses. Craster. Bamburgh. Fantastic beaches. Great pubs/restaurants. taxman
We go to York for a weekend every year. We spend longer in Whitby to justify the extra distance. We did a weekend in Edinburgh a few years ago but really a weekend isn't enough to even scratch the surface so we go for the whole week now. Had a weekend in Liverpool last year as well which was interesting. How about Lincoln if you are interested in history? Its only a short train journey away. I'm unable at the moment to plan any long holidays due to work so this year will be mostly weekends away. It's an opportunity to revisit favourite places and maybe discover some new ones. mikeG
Devon is a bit far for you but if you ever fancy a trip to the Jurassic coast, have a look at http://www.beer-devon.co.uk.
Mylo_Photo
I would recommend Alnwick - the castle and the garden are great places to visit. The Courtyard Garden is a great B&B too. We got engaged at the Alnwick Treehouse and go back to visit every year

tzijlstra
Spent a weekend in Liverpool and loved it. The Walker gallery is awesome if you like modern art and the whole city is bustling.
