No car tax ok for some

Recommended Posts

Slovakian nationality, at least according to Google.

Also, isn't there something coming in soon to say you are not going to have a car tax disc?

No physical tax disc from Oct 14.

Foreign cars don't require UK tax though... But presumably still require tax in their home country along with insurance.

Yes I do know and understand the 3 month rule and that haulage companies travel on their local licences but the vehicles I have mentioned have been doing it for many months. Two weeks ago I pulled up at firth park to drop someone off and my back wheels rested on double yellow lines and was immediately approached by two police, at the same time two SK plated cars drove past and the police never batted an eye what's all that about?

Why would the police do something about a foreign car driving past? It's not illegal to drive a foreign car in the UK.

Sorry Lemaquis I forgot to say that the two cars with SK plates on which passed as the police came to me DID NOT have tax discs on

You spotted this as they drove past, whilst yourself talking to the police about your illegal parking? Wow, you've got good eyes.

So if you took your car to France on would you immediately attempt to pay what ever the local equivalent of car tax is?

No, thought not.

You have no idea how long those cars have been in the UK, and my guess is, if you moved abroad you would try and get away with it. Grow up. There are more important things to get bitter and twisted about.

YES AS THE FRENCH HAVE TOLL ROADS

We pay to use there motorway system but they don't pay to use ours! cot me €70 to go though France when I drove to Madrid.

Suggest you learn your topic.

So if they're resident in Slovakia how come their kids are at school here?

A car drives past with no "tax disc" and it has foreign plates is not unusual or illegal. A trip to any ferry port would prove this.

"they" could be students, lecturers, visiting professors, people on job contracts, visitors etc who are perfectly entitled not to purchase a UK "tax disc" for a time . This is a reciprocal agreement with many more countries than just the EU.

Which member of the family owns the car, which member of the family is the parent, which member of the family is UK resident or not is not possible to know without a level of knowledge that is not available to most of us.

Parents who are visitors can and do send their children to school.

The letter on a car does not prove the nationality of the owner/driver.

There is a perfectly legal German registered hire car, driven by a Swiss resident and UK passport holder in a drive close to us.

There is no point in reporting it no one is interested, there has been a car outside my house for 7 months now, no idea where it came from or who it belongs to but the road tax expired over a year ago, I've reported it to the police 3 times and the dvla 4 times and it's still there

We have toll roads. Your point is?

We have how many? 2? its hardly the same is it, and yes you can use the none toll roads in France and add hours onto your journey which for a business would probably not be financially viable anyway if lorrys or coaches could even use the smaller roads without escorts etc

my point is its a completely unfair balance with the UK been scr**ed again as usual
