Stevec427
I remember, growing up in the 1980s/90s, that SYT used a variety of support vehicles (the misc. feet) painted up in the same liveries as the buses; Transits & Land Rovers etc. Im curious; i've never seen any such vehicles in the Sheffield Transport (pre SYPTE) colours. Im sure theres someone who can shed some light here.... maybe even some photos??

little malc
One of the most iconic vehicles was the WW2 AEC Matador heavy recovery truck, which was rescued from a harbour (Egypt?) and renovated by the apprentices at Queens Road. It was then used as the main towing vehicle for broken down buses. There was also a converted Leyland back loader bus converted as a towing vehicle, both these originally in STD blue and cream. Another converted Leyland DD bus with the top lopped off was used to trim trees on bus routes.

bracken
The vans used in the 60's - 70's by Sheffield Transport were mainly B.M.C. 6 or 10cwt . They were painted blue halfway up , then cream ,then a black roof .These were between '69-'73. There was also 2 bigger Karrier 3 ton "cash vans" mid 60's then 2 newer Commer versions. There was also a Land Rover -XWJ 609G , also a Fordson Tractor - KWJ 681- and 1 ton Leyland Comet lorry - RWE 101 - both of which are preserved at SYTM Aldwalke.
