I1L2T3
I bet the Baltic countries are feeling nervous, would you appease Russia if they fancied taking them bake under their fold? Where would you draw the line? We'll find out in due course where Putin thinks the line is.
tzijlstra
Just heard the pathetic 'sanctions' the US and EU announced. Lethargic, underwhelming and worst of all, encouraging to Putin.

Not sure countries coming out of a recession fancy going back in one. Not sure they can afford a war in terms of casualties or losing billions in trade. tzijlstra
Sitting back has not helped avoiding war in the past and won't help now. Whilst we're all running scared of a Russian army that has seen no sensible investment or development since the Cold War, in fact one that has been decimated, we are letting an increasingly megalomaniac dictator get away with the biggest fast one pulled since the Sudetenland treaty. Google that if you have to. ---------- Post added 17-03-2014 at 16:32 ---------- Just to add, do I want war? Of course not, but the only way of showing a bully up is by demonstrating you are stronger, the American Atlantic Fleet should have been in the Black Sea weeks ago, as should the Royal Navy. tzijlstra
This isnt about the Crimea or about the EU, this is about avoiding creating a blueprint for other nations to change borders. India and Kashmir, Israel and the West Bank, Iraq and Kuwait, China and Taiwan, Argentina and the Falklands. There are hundreds of hotspots that can form the trigger for the sort of war we have not seen in decades. Russia has plenty more territory it would like to see back under Russian rule as well, this sets a precedent unparalleled in modern times. But hey, we are tired of war, so why prevent more of it.
