Rampent
Well, according to an article in today's Times, although nearly a third of Europe's gas comes out of Russia, Britain doesn't buy any of it. This may be a problem for Germany and France but not us. Don't know where ours comes from but mediumfasts post sounds plausible. I don't trust The Times. Blackbeard
Interesting article in the Telegraph, part of it says; "Rising energy bills and a growing dependence on imported gas have increased pressure to step up development of shale resources in the UK through fracking. The vulnerability of UK energy supplies has also been exposed by the unfolding dispute between Russian and Europe over Ukraine in Crimea. Russia is Europe's largest supplier of gas and a significant exporter to the UK." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/10678417/UK-energy-security-at-risk-as-gas-imports-surge-Centrica.html

Daid
So, why did we close the pits? To strengthen the north south divide of course, nothing like hate to motivate.

hillsbro
I thought Britain was more reliant on Norwegian and Qatari gas rather than Russian.Seems to be correct according to business intelligence firm Argus Media: here is a chart. Britain imports LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) from Qatar.

Dam argos, they will be selling arms and legs to Iraq next

Super Hans
The way I see it if Newcastle had 83% Scottish people and used to be Scottish and Scotland came and said "We're having Newcastle back" I'd say "Fine have it I don't give a sh*t".
