Lived in California since 1972 after a few years up around Idaho and Montana after leaving the Service. I wont name the town i live in. I'll let you feed on your own ignorance. Sending liinks with photos of police is a waste of your time. You'll just have to take my word for it. A police officer in my town is referred to as an Agent... like Agent Johnson for example. We have a small police force with around 60 or so sworn personnel. The next rank up is Corporal followed by Sergeant, then Lieutenant, then Captain and finally Police Chief.

If you have any problem with the above then I suggest you shove it where the sun dont shine Skinty Boy.

 

Our police department also provide home security checks if your out of town.

 

You pick up a form from the police department, fill it out showing which dates you will be away , any cars that will be in the driveway. names of any persons authorized to be on the premisess and a phone number where you can be contacted in case of emergency. Once a day a Police Agent will visit the premises and make sure all is in order.

 

You wouldnt get service like that from your police department. You'd be lucky if they responded to a burglary within an hour. Too busy arresting drunk teenagers or shop lifters

 

Being a town that votes heavily republican probaby a large percentage own forearms. The crime rate is very low and you can walk around any street at two in the morning without being bothered except perhaps by the odd bored Agent asking you for an ID.

You know it strikes me that he gives enough details about the towns police (which will reveal it's size) force and rank structure in there to possibly identify the town - or get it down to a shortlist. 60 odd officers indicates a town of about say 30,000?

 

Given the year he moved there, it's eminently possible to identify him personally.

I carried weapons of destructivee firepower in the jungles of Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam and fired many a type long before you were born I'll bet. I also taught my two sons to shoot and the correct way to handle guns safely at all times, to never carry them loaded off the range and to keep them locked up in the gun safe at home. safet practices which both observe to this day

 

If in fact supermarkets in other States are allowed to sell firearms then I'd say it's their business. If anyone on here feels some sense of outrage that guns are sold in Walmart stores in Georgia then I suggest they E-mail, twitter the State Governor's office in Atlanta and express their outrage. I'm sure they'll be listened to... especially if it came from Sheffield

I've seen them for sale in Alaska and Georgia (and as noted bought one in GA).

 

We start them on .177 air rifles on a 10m portable range which we run at the scout hut and then move up to .22LR at 50m. If they are sensible enough we then let them loose with full bore .303 at 100m which is at my local club (it helps that I'm a range officer for the NRA and the owner is a good friend of mine). Most of the shooting we do is to get them in practise for the national rifle championships but we really need to get some practice on a 300 meter range as that's what the full bore competition is shot on.

 

I'm trying to get an outdoor range built at our campsite but it's very tight on space and fitting in a range, and ensuring that we are able to use it safely is tricky - I basically need to build a decent set of earthworks to protect the land beyond the range end and it's not a trivial undertaking as the amount needed is quite large.
