Ruprecht1st
I'm not so sure, the Afghan government (which isn't Taliban but was originally a western puppet while it suited) has been busy passing some extreme laws the Taliban would be proud of. It has indeed, but politics is such that in order to carry the Afghan public no government can move too quickly. It would be stupid for them to try to adopt many of our laws. The law must suit the temperament culture and customs of the people they are imposed upon. Regarding the Afghan government being a puppet, it is easy and cheap to seek to denigrate what the current regime has achieved. The democracies made no secret of the fact that it sought regime change, this government was indeed created by the democracies, but the people of Afghanistan have maintained it through the ballot box and they will throw it out if they perceive a better option. Good luck to Afghanistan, they have suffered much and deserve peace tranquility and happiness. We should stand ready to defend them again should the forces of intolerance, religious fundamentalism and pure evil seek to interfere again. Agree, under the Taleban the women who voted in the recent election would have been executed for being able to read.

They don't need to be able to read. Just put a cross in the box their husbands tell them to.
