Plastering nightmare

No it isn't but if the workmen hadn't covererd them wouldnt you then do it yourself or would you just let them carry on making a mess. I know what I would do.

As a pro tradesman part of your responsibility is care. If you believe that your customer is responsible for your duty of care then it wouldn't be surprising to find that your business is suffering. It takes absolutely nothing to protect your work area.

Well he's just left after day 3 and still hasn't finished. The walls which are now dry don't look too bad, think he's done some sanding on those today but he was here 6 hrs and all he's done is skim one wall, tidy up and put glue on the ceiling to skim it again!

Sounds like a novice if he has to sand what he has already done?
