I know what I would do. No, I'd have told them to leave. (dead give-away) As a pro tradesman part of your responsibility is care. If you believe that your customer is responsible for your duty of care then it wouldn't be surprising to find that your business is suffering. It takes absolutely nothing to protect your work area. The walls which are now dry don't look too bad, think he's done some sanding on those today but he was here 6 hrs and all he's done is skim one wall, tidy up and put glue on the ceiling to skim it again!
