Elmambo
Parade was always led by a Guy dressed as a fairy. Always the largest, hairiest student that could be found.

Minimo
I seem to remember posting some while ago about a short piece of film showing the boat race or part of it. Perhaps someone remembers where it can be found. Edited to add I just found it, there is a dvd of Sheffield in the Sixties. Andy Horsfield posted some months ago that copies were still available. Check out his post about it.
hobinfoot
I loved the rag parade and the twicker the boat race was great watching all the home made craft on the Don and to think it was not the cleanest in those days but I have never heard about any of the students getting ill after taking a dip. beansforyou
Used to go to my aunties as the rag day parade went past their house, we'd hang out of the upstairs windows and try to throw pennies into their buckets as they went past.
