Mister M
A story by the Mail On Sunday which claimed that a food bank in Nottingham didn't run appropriate checks on some of its clients, and as usual for the Daily Mail had the nasty scroungermania whiff to it (original article here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2608606/No-ID-no-checks-vouchers-sob-stories-The-truth-shock-food-bank-claims.html) - has caused a backlash causing more people to send donations to the foodbank http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/apr/20/food-bank-donations-trussell-trust-mail-sunday Keep it up guys!:
Happ Hazzard
And yet tomorrows Daily Mail will still outsell tomorrows Guardian by a ratio of about 8:1. There is no "backlash". It's just the same old bitter lefties bashing the Mail. Like they do every week. Maybe they should concentrate on getting their own newspapers circulation figures a bit higher. But of course then they wouldn't be able to bang on about the "right wing press" that poisons peoples minds and stops the SWP from winning elections. Because people can't think for themselves you see. Except for them. Because they read the Guardian, which only prints the truth...

Your beloved Heil on Sunday has published a nasty, spiteful article and it has motivated people to send money and donations. Not the reaction you'd want naturally. People who use food banks has rocketed, and people resent them being labelled scroungers by the Mail. Especially when a national newspaper like the Mail could afford to investigate the nefarious wrongdoings of banks and financial institutions. chalga
What do you expect from the Daily Mail...Poor people are involved here.
Happ Hazzard
A lot more poor people read the Mail than read the Guardian... Nothing wrong with food banks, and nothing wrong with people donating to them. I think the people using them need to take a look at themselves and the way they live their lives. I would guarantee that to a fraction of a percent, they have chosen to live unwisely in the past, spent money on things they didn't need instead of choosing to save for a rainy day. But there will always be people like this and so there will always be a need for things like food banks.

Happ Hazzard
You don't agree? You don't think that at least SOME of the people using food banks could have benefitted from being a bit more financially astute in the past?

Happ Hazzard
No, let them take their pineapple chunks. But also let them think about how to prevent this happening next time there is a recession. Maybe stop smoking. Maybe stop drinking. Or stop buying junk food. Or leave that holiday for another year. Set up an ISA, put some money aside for the future. Instead of spending it all in the knowledge that the government will always be there to prevent you from starving or going cold. Because more than likely, at some point in most people under 40s lifetimes, the government won't be able to help anymore.
SNES
While billionaires and companies dodging tax all sit on big fat piles of cash, while the evil public sector workers dare to ask for a fairer wage, instead of sacrificing everything to (hurrah) do their duty for queen and country. You can judge how sick a society is by the gap from the poorest person to the richest....
